Velocity is a great way to enhance your communication skills, overall fantastic.
The day has taught me skills that can be implemented to life.
Cristina Sanchez Jimenez (BIM Manager – Digital Engineer at Bovis)
Great to share this amazing day at the University of Roehampton’s UR Game Changers event for the National Apprenticeship Week - seeing, supporting, and evaluating college students through the development of their business ideas, and even choosing who to give our VC funds! It was brilliant to see young talent develop creative ideas, collaborate and grow throughout the day.
From Matteo Orsi (Head of BIM and Digital Design at Morris and Company)
Over the course of a single day (!!!) various student teams developed new ideas, refined their concepts, and then, much like a “Dragon’s Den” episode, pitched their innovations to the “Dragons”
It was inspiring to witnessing so many passionate students collaborating on their projects. It served as a great reminder of how crucial is to bring enthusiasm and passion to every challenge
From Lalita Taylor (Inclusion Consultant, Learning Design Executive Producer)
This event is a great example of intergenerational learning—where fresh, innovative thinking meets experience to drive impactful solutions. The organisers have put together a well-structured day to help students develop key work-ready skills.
During an Ofsted inspection in November 2024, an inspector attended the Velocity event at Buckinghamshire College Group. Impressed by the experience, he expressed a desire to stay for the full event and included it in his report under “What it is like to be a learner with this provider,” stating:
“They enjoy the opportunity to work with their peers and employers at the college’s ‘Velocity’ event to design and pitch real-world business ideas.”
From Julie Halford (Degree Apprenticeship: Senior Project Lead and Business Development at University of Roehampton)
The students from City of Westminster College truly impressed with their incredible talents and innovative ideas at our firstUniversity of Roehampton "UR Game Changers" event. Their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication were truly inspiring. We were all proud of the students and appreciate the City of Westminster College staff and the employer Dragons for supporting and making this experience so memorable. Let's keep celebrating and supporting our students on their journey to success!
From MD Marufur Rahman (Engineering Lecturer)
A big thank you and well done to everyone involved in the event! I'm truly inspired by the students' impressive potential and their dedication to honing their skills as engineering entrepreneurs. All the projects were amazing in real-time, especially the marketplace where students passionately pitched their ideas, collaborated with the development team, and even collected funding for their projects. Your hard work and creativity have made this event a memorable success.
Your hard work is making a huge difference for young entrepreneurs. Keep inspiring us all!
From Eleanor Merrick (Director for Business and Partnership Development, Stakeholder Engagement, Fundraising and Events at University of Roehampton)UR Game Changers - a fantastic dragon's den style event to challenge and inspire FE students, supported by a great group of employers from digital, engineering and built environment industries. The full day was expertly led by Angela Hayles and Clare Meridew and supported by Julie and my team at University of Roehampton. The students' ideas and pitches were great and I am sure many are inspired to take up higher apprenticeships or degree programmes in the future.
Ingrid Watson (Principal HR Manager at Tony Gee and Partners)
Thanks for running an insightful and engaging activity. It is so exciting to see the varied talents of our students and apprentices!
